How to draw hair for Beginners
Firstly Draw an outline for hair drawing using head shape then perform some indentation, you can also use a crochet tool to add realistic hair texture. Perform shading from the inner side of the hair. Again, use an 8B pencils to add an extra shading layer.
You always thought to draw hair as beginner but ended up drawing something different. Just like following? Don’t worry, everything is covered here to help you draw better drawing.
By the way, this was the very similar case when I started drawing, but don’t worry I am going to explain step by step method to draw hair as a beginner.

There are roughly 100,000 strand of hair on a human head, all strands come together and form a unique texture and color tone, drawing a realistic hair can be intimidating for beginners as well
as for experienced artists. But, it can be easily done if the process is broken into easy steps.
We will use following hair style in the picture below as a reference to draw our sketch in a step by step manner.
REFERENCE HAIR STYLE

REQUIRED MATERIAL
- Crochet needle(for indenting)
- Dry brush
- Wooden tool
- Derwent pencil 3B and 5B
- Black pencil
- Eraser
STEP 1: DRAW THE OUTLINE
It is difficult to draw hair without using the outline, as you need to figure out the the overall shape of head while drawing the hair to give it a realistic and flawless look.

You can use your own reference image to draw the hair if you like.
STEP 2: INDENTATION
Now you need to use a secrete tool called crochet, this tool will add a realistic hair texture in the drawing, you can also use any other hard metal or wood nail to get the job done. By using the crochet needle or wooden tool. I am creating the lines and adding depth in the paper.

STEP 3: SHADING
Using a 5B pencil, we will start shading from the inner side of the hair, try using the edge of your pencil, this will blend the shading in a uniform way, avoid drawing individual hair. once shading is done for inner areas then we will darken the outlines.

To give it more sharper look, you can also use a blending stump or dry brush, but it is optional.
STEP 4: SECOND LAYER
By using 8B Derwent pencil add the second layer of the shading in the hair.

STEP 5: THIRD LAYER
Using black pencil for creating more depth in the shading. add shading to those missing area where you see gapes.

STEP 6: HIGHLIGHTS
By using the eraser, bright and highlight shades, slide the eraser in the direction of hair lines, once done, we will add extra layer of shading in the next step.

STEP 7: TOUCH UPS:
Sharpen the edges by pencil to make them look more realistic and natural. Specially those areas that you have erased in previous step.

The above method was explained in the text form, but it is not possible to explain every detail about drawing the realistic hair drawing, hence why I have attached step by step video tutorial for this drawing.
